Corrections and Updates Policy

If a bin collection guide is unclear, outdated or incorrect, this policy explains how we review correction requests and update pages.

Independent information notice: bincollectionday.org/ is an independent UK information website. We are not GOV.UK, a local council, a waste contractor or an official booking service. Our pages are written to help residents understand bin collection information, but final address-specific dates, payments, reports and service requests should always be confirmed through the relevant official council or GOV.UK page.

How to request a correction

Email contact@bincollectionday.org with the page URL, council name, official source link and a short explanation of the issue. If the correction involves a date, fee, phone number, address, form link, map, report deadline or service rule, please include the official source where the updated detail appears.

What we treat as a correction

  • A broken or outdated official council link.
  • A changed collection process, report window or presentation time.
  • A bank-holiday update that affects residents.
  • A garden waste, bulky waste, food waste or recycling rule change.
  • An incorrect council name, place name, address, map reference or contact route.
  • Wording that may confuse residents even if the underlying fact is technically correct.

How we review corrections

  1. We identify the affected page and the claim being challenged.
  2. We compare the page with the official council, GOV.UK or other relevant official source.
  3. We update the page if the official source confirms the change.
  4. We may add a clarification if the issue is caused by ambiguous wording.
  5. We reject changes based only on rumours, copied snippets or unverified claims.

Update priority

Priority level Examples
High Wrong official link, missed-bin report deadline, changed collection day process, important bank-holiday disruption, paid service rules.
Medium Confusing wording, missing step, unclear council area coverage, replacement-bin process, recycling item clarification.
Lower Minor style edits, wording preferences, non-critical formatting issues.

Transparency

When an update materially changes the meaning of a page, we may revise the relevant section, add clearer wording, update the link, or refresh the “last reviewed” note. We do not guarantee that every minor wording edit will be separately logged on the public page.

Reader responsibility

Our guides are informational. They help explain where to check and what to do, but official council systems remain the final source for address-specific collection dates, service bookings and formal reports.
